The Dutch BV: European credibility from one eurocent
When a partner sees a Dutch company on the contract, the credibility question usually answers itself. The Netherlands offers a stable jurisdiction, a mature banking system, and one of the world’s best tax treaty networks. And the BV — the Dutch private limited company — can be incorporated with €0.01 in share capital.
The requirements are refreshingly short: at least one director and one shareholder (the same person is fine, any nationality, any residence), a Dutch registered address, and a civil-law notary — Dutch law doesn’t allow a BV without a notarial deed. We coordinate the notary, prepare the documents, and register the company in the KVK trade register. The whole process typically takes around two weeks, all handled remotely by power of attorney.
Corporate tax (vpb) is 19% on profit up to €200,000 and 25.8% above that. VAT runs at 21% standard, 9% reduced. Corporate shareholders holding 5% or more benefit from the participation exemption on dividends.
Our BV registration service costs €3,500. Bank account opening is €500, and the VAT number is free. After that we stay with you: bookkeeping at around €500 per month and a legal address at €130 per month. Dutch reporting is strict, and it’s not something you want to face alone.
An active Dutch business can also support a residence permit application — we’ll explain how that works for your specific situation.
